Back in school, he made my life tough. He laughed at me every day. I felt small and scared around him. I tried to forget all that once I left school. Life was okay until now.
Seeing him again brought back all the memories. He looked at me like before. I felt sick to my stomach. He was now my coworker. I had to stay calm. I nodded and sat down. I had work to do.
The meeting started, and I had to speak. My voice was shaky. I saw him smirk as I talked. “We need to figure out the layoffs,” I said. It was my job to be fair. Part of me was terrified, but I stayed strong.
After the meeting, I sat at my desk. My heart still pounded. I took deep breaths to calm myself. I thought about the past, how he hurt me. It felt like he had power over me again.
Days passed, and I tried to focus on work. I met the team daily. Our company had to save money. We had to make hard choices about layoffs. My old bully always had something to say. He acted like he knew everything.
One day, I saw a message on my phone. It was from an old school friend. She wrote, “Did you know he’s working there now?” I felt a wave of anger. He had hurt many people back then. Now he was here, smiling like nothing happened.
I could not let him affect my work. I had to be smart, think clearly. I started to gather evidence, like emails and reports. I noticed he made many mistakes. He ignored deadlines and missed meetings. It was clear he did not take his job seriously.
I had to be fair in my role. Other people’s jobs were on the line too. I talked to my boss. I showed her the evidence I found. She looked surprised. “I didn’t expect this,” she said. It was not just me who saw the problems.
My boss asked me to be on the layoff committee. I stayed calm and did my job. I did not mention our past. I wanted to judge him only by his work. It was the right thing to do.
I kept thinking about what would happen. One day, I found a photo from school. It was a group picture. I was standing far from him. It reminded me of the pain I felt then. I was so different now. I was strong and smart.
Finally, the day came for layoff decisions. I sat at the table with the committee. My old bully was sitting across from us. He seemed smug. He probably thought his job was safe. He even winked at me. I stayed silent.
The committee discussed each person fairly. When his name came up, it was clear. His mistakes were big, and he never tried to fix them. My boss asked others for their opinions. Everyone agreed we couldn’t keep him.
We called him into the room. I felt a mix of emotions. He walked in with a confident smile. “What do you need from me?” he asked, casually.
My boss spoke first. “We’ve reviewed your work,” she said. His face changed from smug to worried. “Unfortunately, we have to let you go.” I didn’t say a word. I watched justice unfold.
He was shocked. “You can’t do this to me,” he said. His voice was loud and angry now. But there was no going back. Everyone saw his reaction. He wasn’t the strong bully anymore.
After he left, I felt a weight lifted. He was gone from my life again. I kept my calm through it all. I didn’t need to fight back. Justice came in its own time. Others saw what happened too. He lost everything, and it was his own doing.
I went home that night feeling peaceful. I cooked dinner and thought about my day. I realized how much I’d grown. I smiled and knew I was okay.
Life is good now. I’m stronger and wiser. I faced my past and came through it better. I can handle anything that comes my way.
